In 2004, concurrent with the independence of the School of Health , the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics started to work as an independent department.

The Department was given permission to offer a master's degree program in biostatistics in 2011 and to admit master's degree students in epidemiology in 2015, and is currently offering master’s degree programs in epidemiology and biostatistics.

As an authoritative and leading department in the field of epidemiology at the hub, national and Eastern Mediterranean region levels, the Department seeks to contribute substantially to scientific research in these fields of study, and to institutionalize applied education and research based on appropriate approaches to offer solutions to health issues.

Therefore, the Department is making constant effort to reach the 1st-5th rank among epidemiology and biostatistics departments in Iran by fulfilling educational and research services in epidemiology and biostatistics.

1) Improving and reengineering the key educational processes of epidemiology and biostatistics;

2) Improving and reengineering the key research processes in epidemiology and biostatistics; and

3) Developing and guiding problem-oriented applied research to promote community health.

1) The prevalence of non-communicable diseases in the province and determining the factors related to them;

2) The incidence and distribution of infectious diseases in the province and investigating the factors related to them;

3) The burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases in the province;

4) Designing interventional programs with the aim of reducing the incidence, mortality and burden of health-related issues at the regional and hub levels;

5) Determining the prevalence and incidence of social problems (divorce, suicide, mental health issues, etc.) and identifying related factors in social epidemiology;

8) Evaluating interventional programs and health policies of healthcare systems;

9) Engaging in the implementation of clinical trials at the regional, national and international levels;

10) Addressing social, health and mental health issues of the provincial population;

11) Establishing correct and logical communication with industries to address health issues in the occupational and industrial settings in the province;

12) Conducting practical and strategic research in geriatric healthcare; and

13) Strengthening Shahrekord Cohort Study as a practical and problem-oriented large study at the provincial and regional levels;
